Designed to help you become more aware of your fitness shape Wii Fit allows you to exercise while having fun. With over 40 exercises focusing on improving your balance and posture, changing your Body Mass Index or simply relaxing, Wii Fit uses the latest technology to assist you in leading a more active lifestyle.
The first step is to put your feet on the Wii Balance Board to get an overview of your current physical condition. By measuring your BMI (Body Mass Index), analyzing your center of gravity and making a series of simple physical tests, the software determines your Wii Fit Age -- a value unique to the game ranging from 2 to 99 which is rather silly and misleading. For most people Wii Fit Age will have nothing to do with your actual physical shape.
Wii Fit offers more than 40 different exercises divided into four main types of training. You can burn calories with Aerobics, improve your balance and posture with Balance Games, build and tone your muscles with Strength Training or learn how to stretch and relax with Yoga.
Featuring everything from Step Basics to Snowboarding, Rhythm Boxing to Jogging, Wii Fit offers a wide range of activities and fun exercises that will keep you interested in working out and encourage the rest of the family to give it a try.
In order to help you monitor your progress Wii Fit comes with a special Wii Fit Channel allowing you to save and compare the profiles of up to 8 people and also takes into account any exercise done away from the Wii Balance Board, ensuring an accurate account of your physical condition. And not only you can see your progress by watching the curves of the graph but also by changing waistline of your Mii character (a personal character or avatar you can create on the Nintendo Wii).
Here are the main omissions of the Wii Fit: you are not able to create your own program from the available exercises and all the exercises are limited to 10 minutes max.
There were conducted multiple experiments in order to determine if Wii Fit is just a gadget or if it can be an effective tool to maintain a healthy lifestyle. One of them was done by David Dzewaltowski, professor and head of the department of kinesiology at Kansas State, Manhattan, and director of the university’s Community Health Institute. He said: “Anything that gets people to move more than they have in the past is positive, but if people are trying to replace physical activity that demands more movement with the Wii, then that will be negative”.
So our conclusion is Nintendo Wii Fit can improve your strength and flexibility if used daily (20-30 min per day is enough) especially when you do not want to or do not have time to go to the gym. It can also work for those who are not athletes, many of my non athletic friends eventually purchased Wii Fit and started to train regularly.
Do not wait any longer to switch to a lifestyle more active with Wii Fit!
